Sarkozy might boycott the opening ceremony!

Although France opposes a total boycott of the Olympic Games in Beijing, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has not ruled out a boycotting the official opening ceremony:

All options are open and I appeal to the Chinese leaders’ sense of responsibility.(…) I want a dialogue to start and I will step up my response according to the response given by the Chinese authorities.

Furthermore, the French state TV network is considering to boycott coverage of the Olympics if “Beijing censored protests during the event.”

Both ideas could be an interesting attempt to boycott the Olympics in a powerful way!

How would it look like if only Chinese, Russian, Cuban, Iranian and North Korean politicians attended the opening/closing ceremony? - This would be indeed an enormous disgrace for the Chinese leaders and China’s reputation in the world!

What if no TV adverts of the official sponsors are seen by consumers in Europe? - Official sponsors will have to consider if financing and supporting a dictatorial regime is an acceptable business strategy in a globalised economy! Social responsible investment and ethical consumerism could change the world significantly.
