Express your opinion, from your TV room, it is possible

A new campaign (with some great banners!) has been launched by Romain in France:

For the first time in its history, television offers a power: Audience.
Like every time, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will be watched by the entire world, and will beat all records for audience, demonstrating the economic success of the operation to the Chinese. But even more than the economic aspect, by reducing the audience to a minimum, it is the overall success of the host country which will be challenged, and the world will send a clear message to the rules imposed by China. Before the date, the popularity of this action could also refrain advertisers to economically support the Olympics, or help them to express their support to human rights.

The international political representatives (most of them) refuse to express any opinion about the Olympic games, and all the human rights violations made by the Chinese government. A simple and effective solution for the public is to boycott the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on TV, as Reporters Without Borders called for. At your level, the solution is simple, and believe it, will have a visible effect, if followed by the greatest number: turn your tv off during the ceremony, and give the ceremony the worst audience that the history of the Olympic games has ever known. So, to support respect of human rights, and sent a strong message to political leaders, who do not have the courage of their thoughts, spread the message!

WHY ONLY THE OPENING CEREMONY ?

Because the idea of a total boycott of the Olympic Games has been rejected unanimously by many thinkers in the world, and that it would never be followed by the greatest number. In calling for a general boycott of the only opening ceremony, even the most moderate and reserved people can participate in the protest movement, and so the number of participants will be multiplied, and so the signal.

At the moment there are banners in French and English, and more languages will come later! So spread the word! Thanks a lot for letting us know, Romain! We are always happy to hear about new campaigns!

Of course, we, at NOlympia, are very excited that more and more campaigns like this one are being developed. However, we do think that a TV boycott of the opening ceremony alone is simply not enough. We understand the argument above but in order to have a real impact, we, as consumers, have to send a stronger signal also taking into account sponsors and advertisers that support the Chinese regime with their money!

By not watching the Olympics on TV we send such a strong signal and make clear that consumers do not tolerate the support of human rights violations! At the same time, companies that sponsor the games should realize that they also have a responsibility for human rights worldwide and that globalisation does also have a human and political dimension and not only a economic one! A bad viewing rate during the Olympics will not only send a strong signal of protest, it will also mean a significant loss of expected profit!

In order to achieve this goal we won’t watch the Olympics!
